Valves in a hydraulic system control the path of the fluid and regulate pressure. They determine which line the fluid flows into, which cylinder or motor receives it, and how much pressure is allowed to build by opening or closing passages. The pump provides the energy by generating flow and pressure, but it’s the valves that direct that flow to the right places and help keep pressure within safe limits using components like relief valves. Cylinders convert the hydraulic energy into motion once fluid is directed to them, and electricity powers the control system that operates the valves. So directing flow and controlling pressure is the job of valves.
